Bloodied and injured victims are seen being comforted by shocked onlookers in the moments after the attack in North London, which police are treating as a terrorist incident.
One man was killed and eight others injured after a hired van ploughed into a group of people leaving Ramadan prayers at Finsbury Park Mosque just after midnight.
The suspected driver, who witnesses say screamed “I’m gonna kill all Muslims” after mowing down worshippers, was pinned to the ground by heroic members of the public before police arrived.
Abdulrahman Saleh Alamoudi was among those who managed to wrestle the suspect to the ground.
He told BuzzFeed News: “I managed to get him on the floor, I was holding him.
“He was screaming ‘I’m gonna kill all Muslims, all Muslims’.”
A 48-year-old man was found detained by members of the public at the scene before being arrested in connection with the incident, police added.
They say he has been taken to hospital as a precaution and will be taken into custody once discharged, where a mental health assessment will be carried out.
Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed the incident was being treated as a potential terrorist attack.
She said: “I will chair an emergency meeting later this morning. All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and the emergency services on the scene.”
